When the Ethernet was still in the process of being conceptualized, it was first thought to be modeled from the widely adapted radio technology which uses radio waves in the air. The Ethernet networking structure is fairly easy to understand. A main frame is used as the guiding force of all transmissions. The main frame is the primary controller of the speed and the direction of all signals. Through determining the points of origin and target, it assures that the signals will not collide or interchange paths. In order for the main frame to maintain conjunction with the group of computers, a distinguished form of linkages are used. However, not all linking devices are the same as they vary on the material and specifications used for their circuit board. Different materials offer different signal conducting capacities. And so it is highly essential that the connectors to be used are specifically applicable to the distance range of two devices. The most popular kind of technology used by Ethernet are in the form of Fiber Optics and Copper wirings. There are also other segments that play an important role for Ethernet networks. They are the attachable connectors and modules that allow devices of different make and  physical layer standards to complement each other. They are the so-called removable modules that serve as adapters for devices of different physical layer standards.

For almost four decades now, the Ethernet technology is the most advanced form of networking means used by Local Area Networks. In the present, there are even more advanced and intricate versions that could cater to Wide Area Networks (WANs).
